IEC HELMHOLTZ COILS PAIR 150mmD
Helmholtz coils provide a magnetic field in air for general studies in magnetism. IEC Helmholtz Coils are precision made with 400 turns of wire wound on a heat resistant polycarbonate former with feet to rest on the table and to fit over the standard 0.5m rule supplied.
Each coil has 4mm spin free IEC terminals and their distance apart is adjusted over the wooden rule. The maximum current in the coil is 1A to avoid overheating. Resistance of each coil is about 20ohm when cold and about 25ohm when warm. Direction of current is marked on each coil.
Connect Helmholtz coils in series so the current passing through them is the same. Use a constant current power supply where the current remains exactly constant even when the coils heat and the resistance rises.
